Hugh Shockey, Principal of Shockey Preservation Services LLC, is a seasoned conservation expert with extensive museum experience. His knowledge spans a diverse range of materials, including traditional sculpture, decorative arts, modern and contemporary works, and time-based media.
Prior to founding his consultancy, he served as the Director of Conservation for the Saint Louis Art Museum for 10 years. He previously spent a decade as a staff objects conservator at the Smithsonian American Art Museum and the Renwick Gallery, where he was involved in outreach and treated collections in public view at the Lunder Conservation Center.
His expansive background also includes crucial work establishing the Smithsonian Haiti Cultural Recovery Center after the 2010 earthquake, a Mellon Fellowship at the National Museum of the American Indian preparing objects for the opening exhibits in its National Mall museum building, and positions at the National Park Service, LACMA, and Graceland.
